The Voice of God
1 Kings 19:9-12 ESV
“There he came to a cave and lodged in it. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He said, “I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts. For the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left, and they seek my life, to take it away.” And He said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.”
And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”
Why did God show all this to Elijah? Because God does not typically speak in dramatics, sound effects and a booming voice of thunder. He was telling Elijah, don’t lock God in the dramatics, listen to the still small voice.
When I hear from God it is in impressions deep down in my Spirit, sometimes in my dreams, most of the time through His Word. We seek God in thunderous ways and we desire miracles that will astound us, but God just wants to lead us by His Spirit, whisper softly in our ear, open doors that we can walk through with the leading of His hand.
Take time to listen, He is speaking!!! It’s amazing to me of what we may have missed by looking for God in great orators and dramatics.
Prayer:
Lord, never let me ever be to busy to stop and listen to You. Never let me get caught up in looking for what astounds me to know You are in my presence. You are always there! In Your name Lord, Amen!
