Knowing Your Needs
Luke 7:11-15 ESV
“Soon afterward He went to a town called Nain, and His disciples and a great crowd went with him. As He drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then He came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.”
This is a touching story of Jesus being full of compassion and providing what was needed at the time. We never know exactly how life is going to go for us after a tragedy, a death or even after a severed relationship, but Jesus knows.
He knew this woman was a widow and now her only son was dead. Possibly she had no way of making it on her own, providing an income or even sustaining a home. Jesus knew exactly what she needed. This son would not live forever but maybe long enough to care for his mother.
Perhaps he would be someone special in the community, or even greater, a follower of Jesus. Jesus has compassion for you and me. He makes a way when there seems to be no way. Pay attention, I believe He is already working things out for you and me and providing what we need to sustain us. He is a great God!
Prayer:
Lord, giver of life and hope, I look to You, the Author and Finisher of my faith and well being. I trust in You to provide!
