It’s the Little Things
Songs of Solomon 2:15 ESV
“Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”
In this passage, Solomon was giving the workers instructions about his vineyard. He wanted the workers to catch the small foxes and get them out of the vineyard because they would nibble at the new growth and destroy the vines that would eventually produce hundreds if not thousands of grapes.
For us, this message is profound, it is the small things in our lives that cause us to stumble and fall and lose our effectiveness. In business, it is the small indiscretions, the little lack of integrity that affects the business like a cancer.
In a relationship it is the small things that creep in, a word taken offensively, a look that seems to set someone off in the relationship. Letting these things fester, they grow into open wounds that sometimes cannot be healed.
In our walk with the Lord, it is the small things that the evil one will expound on to make us think that we are not worthy, we will never be good enough. He will make us think we are failures, but he is a big fat liar. We are children of the Most High God, the Creator of all things, the Keeper of our hearts, the Lover of our spirits. It is in Him that we live.
Keep an eye out for the small things but also keep sowing in the positive, keep moving forward. In business, stop the small things that will destroy the business. Sow in acts of integrity, honesty, quality of character. Let people know what we stand for.
In relationships, clear the air, apologize, even if you don’t think you were in the wrong. Make some kind gestures, do small acts of kindness, let them see that you care, and you don’t mean to harm.
Prayer:
Lord, we trust in You. We keep our eyes on You. Help us to keep watch on the little things that seem to creep in. If we do slip up, Your word says that “…though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again (Proverbs 24:16).” If we fall seven, seventy or seven thousand times, You will still pick us up, and take us by the hand, and lead us on. Thank You Lord, Amen!
