Judges 6:6, 12-13 ESV

“And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the people of Israel cried out for help to the Lord. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.”  And Gideon said to him, “Please, my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us?”‘

Israel was being tormented and oppressed by Midian because of Israel’s sins. At this point, God had now allowed 5 tribes in 5 different time periods to attack Israel because of their sins, but when Israel repented, God swiftly saved Israel every time.

In this story, God took an ordinary man, Gideon, a man that was scared and angry And used him in an extraordinary fashion to defeat the same enemy that God allowed to come and pronounce judgment on Israel. God brought Israel back, then removed the enemy. The lesson to be learned here is; God will allow judgment of some sort because of sin, But He will deliver in dramatic fashion when we repent of our sins.

Prayer:
Father, when I slip away from you and I turn and do what I want to do instead of what you require. When things begin to happen in my life that I don’t understand, remind me to repent, then I will see Your hand of deliverance.
