I’m Doing a Great Work
Nehemiah 6:1-4 ESV
“Now…our enemies heard that I had built the wall and that there was no breach left in it… Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together at Hakkephirim in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm. And I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?” And they sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.”
Explanation:
Our enemy is persistent, most especially when we are busy about the Lord’s work. He will stop at nothing, and he will try every trick in the book to keep us from our purpose in Christ.
It will not always be people, but he will use circumstances as well and even sickness to keep us from the work of the Lord. But stay strong, stay vigilant, keep a close eye out on his schemes but mostly, listen to the Lord’s counsel.
When the enemy calls you out to stand in a place where he can destroy you, tell him “O NO, I will not go to the Valley of Ono to meet you.” Tell him you are doing a great work and you cannot be bothered by his foolishness and schemes. Though he tries time and time again, reject his advances, stand firm and rest in the Lord’s wisdom.
Prayer:
Lord, the enemy is strong, but you are stronger, the strongest! I know the enemy is cunning, but he cannot withstand Your wisdom. I rely on You to preserve me and the place where I stand. In Your name Lord, Amen!
