Miracle to Remember Where You are Supposed to Be

John 21:3-6 ESV
“Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.  Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.”

He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.”  So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.”

After Jesus’s resurrection, the disciples had met Jesus in Galilee, then the disciples were alone. Peter and a few of the disciples were discouraged and unsure about the future so they did something that felt familiar they got into a boat and went fishing, the same place where Jesus chose them just 3-1/2 years earlier.

I’m sure as they threw out their nets all night long fishing, they thought about the last 3-1/2 years but most specifically about the events of the last three weeks. Everything seemed to unravel. Jesus arrest, crucifixion and then His resurrection, what now?

They worked all night and it seemed pointless. Then someone stood on the shore and called out to the disciples. “Do you have any fish?” Of course their answer was a resounding, “NO.” Then the man said, “cast your nets on the other side of the boat.”

I can just hear Peter fuming under his breath, but they complied. When they did, they caught specifically 153 LARGE fish. That never happens! Then John knew it was the Lord. So why this miracle? Because Peter needed this miracle to snap him out of his lull.

The other disciples needed this miracle too, they had all fallen into “business as usual,” and that was not the Masters plan. It happens to us too. We get discouraged, fall back into familiar places, find comfort in familiar faces. Then you need a miracle to remind you, God’s not done with you!

Prayer:
Lord, I’ve been there with Simon Peter a hundred times. And a hundred times You created a circumstance or a situation that reminds me who I am and what I’m supposed to be doing. Yes everytime there was a miracle to wake me up and tell me to keep moving forward in faith. Thank You! Your not done with me!
