My Glory
Psalms 3:1-3 ESV
“O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, ‘There is no salvation for him in God.’ But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”
David was running from his son Absalom when he wrote this Psalm. Absalom was impatient and wanted the throne before his time. He was fueled by the fact that David did not punish his half-brother for a crime he had committed. David, distressed between his son’s actions and the love he still felt for his son says, (1) “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me…” The Lord was always David’s protector, provider and the one who brought him peace. (2) The Lord was David’s glory, that means that God was the one who brought David honor, made him feel worthy and gave him inner peace and strength. (3) “…the lifter of my head.” God was the one that would restore David and bring David back from these times of depression and stress. God would bring him back to the place he needed to be mentally, physically and spiritually.
Today, allow God to be your shield (protector), your glory, (the one who shows you that you are worthy and He will bring you back to the where you need to be mentally, physically and spiritually).
Prayer:
Lord, You see where each of us are at. We have good days and some days that are not so good. Instead of us relying on ourselves, we chose to look to you our shield, our glory, and the one who lifts us up. Thank You Lord, Amen!
