Words of God
Hebrews 4: 12 ESV
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
This verse is often quoted in messages from the pulpit, but what does it really mean?
The words of God are living. In fact His words will never die; no matter how many times someone may reject God’s words or even try to get rid of them, those words live on. His words are active; they are constantly assuring us, strengthening us, encouraging us and making us feel secure.
His words are sharper than a two-edged sword, dividing between soul and spirit. We would think of this more like a surgeon’s scalpel. God’s word like a surgeon’s scalpel can divide between soul and Spirit; The soul is the intellectual thoughts and emotions of a person, the spiritual side of a person understands truths, abounds in wisdom and knowledge.
God’s words, the surgeon’s scalpel, discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. The words of God are able to perceive, know and understand the individual
and help them to adapt to the will of God so that they become productive, meaningful, and empathetic. God’s words help us to find God’s will for our lives.
Prayer:
Lord, Your words are in us, Your words keep us from sin. Let Your words, lead us in paths that You want us to go, and to do the things that will bring You joy, and stimulate us and satisfy us. Your words Lord are like fire in us, fan into flames the spark in us all. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
