Luke 24:36-49 ESV
“…Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!” But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit. And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see… Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures…”
The day after the resurrection, the disciples, reeling from the death of their teacher, fearing for for their lives, were in hiding, wondering if everything they had seen and believed was really true? With the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus appears in the room. In disbelief they watched and listened to Jesus, then without much interaction from the disciples,
Jesus opens their understanding to all that they had seen and heard. We may scoff at their lack of understanding, but at times we are the same way. We have things happen that we don’t understand, things that cause us doubt in our walk with God. But at their weakest moment Jesus opened up their minds and their hearts. And they turned their world upside down for God by spreading the gospel. He knows what we are capable of, He just needs for us to believe and to be open and receptive. Then He will empower us to change our world.
Prayer:
Father, the resurrection wasn’t the end, it was only the beginning. Like you used these 11 men, 2000 years ago, use me.
