Doubt

Matthew 28:16-17 ESV
“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.”

After all that Jesus did, after all of His words came true, after proof of the Old Testament scriptures have been fulfilled in the eyes of the disciples, still some doubted. Even though Matthew does not record other encounters with Jesus, these disciples had in fact seen Jesus at least once, some twice.

What did these disciples doubt? No one really knows, there are only speculations. Here is how doubt works. When Zechariah was visited by the angel of the Lord and told that he would have a son, he doubted. He logically assumed that he and his wife were too old to have children.

Any time we allow human reasoning to cloud our faith in God, doubt is the results. No matter how logical our reasons may seem, doubt it is still sin. Faith is trusting God even when His plan goes against human reason or experience, remember that phrase.

I will ask the same question that God asked Abraham, Genesis 18:14, “Is anything too hard for the LORD?”

Jesus said in Mark 10:27: “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”

God asked Jeremiah in Jeremiah 32:27, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?”

Before I worked on AC units, I looked at the inside of an AC unit and saw all the wires and valves and thought, “that is impossible to understand.” Then I went to school, and I went to work with other technicians and began to learn the systems and it really is logical how an ac unit works.

With God, sometimes things may not seem logical to our intellect, search Him out, see if what He is doing has been done in the Bible. If the Bible bears witness, believe it.

Prayer:
Lord, help our unbelief. Our own reasoning gets in the way of You working in our lives. Open our eyes Lord to see that it is You. Open up our understanding of Your words to see what You have done in the past and believe. In Your name Lord Jesus, amen!
