Those Who Have Not seen, but They Still Believe

John 20:26-29 ESV
“Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”  Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Thomas was not at the first meeting with Jesus after the resurrection, and he had doubted that Jesus was alive. This was a different day and Jesus comes in exactly the same way he did the first time. He comes in through a locked door, it still freaks out the disciples, and Jesus’s mission is to show Thomas not that seeing is believing but believing is seeing.

He addresses Thomas, knowing his words to the disciples that he doubted unless he saw Jesus and touched Jesus. Jesus says directly to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”

Then the moment where Jesus not only speaks to Thomas, He also speaks to the whole world, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Trust, belief, faith are all tied to the premise that Jesus is trustworthy. When no one else is worthy of our trust, He is worthy. Believing first is seeing.

Prayer:
Lord, you have proven to be righteous, true, and trustworthy more times that I can count or remember. You are who You say You are and You do what You say You are going to do. Your words are truth when everyone else is false, I can trust You with every fiber of my being.
