Things That Are Important

Matthew 6:19-21 ESV
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Whatever we focus on dictates our actions. When we focus on earthly success and wealth, we put our energies on those earthly matters. However, when we focus on God’s priorities, our actions will reflect different priorities—and our reward in heaven will last forever.

God sees and knows every thought we think and holds us accountable for the truth we’ve been given. We store up treasure in heaven when we make choices on earth that benefit God’s kingdom.

When we seek the praises of God, and most of us know when we do good deeds, and do the right thing, those are the things that please God, and we sense His pleasure. Jesus was not saying we should not save up for the future or put money aside for later in life, that would only be smart.

If we obsess over saving money and obsess about our investments or even strive for earthly matters, we have lost. If we act wisely with our finances and possessions and trust God and we seek to please God, we store up our treasures in heaven with God.

Prayer:
Father, I give my possessions, my finances, my business to You. The abundance we work for here on earth is good but to please You is the greater reward. Let all that I do be for Your Glory and not for selfish gain. Any good that I have obtained on earth is because of You, I dedicate it back to You.
