It’s Time to Move On
Joshua 1:1-2 ESV
“After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel.”
Joshua had followed Moses for 40 years. He was the special assistant to Moses. Joshua, undoubtedly was grieving for Moses, unsure of what to do next. Moses was the one that went into the presence of the Lord for 40 years and delivered His message to Israel. Now God needed another leader. Joshua was lost at this point, but God basically said to Joshua that he needed to stop mourning and start following God.
We all get sidelined by life events that are unpleasant, a death of someone close, a divorce, someone we love moves away someone gets upset with us and we can’t fix it. Mourn for a time and then move on just like God was telling Joshua.
God needed Joshua to pick up and move on. God knew Joshua missed Moses and he probably couldn’t believe Moses was gone but it was time for Joshua to lead and not just follow. Moses had groomed Joshua for this time, now it was time for Joshua to turn the page, get up and move on. Life was not over as a matter of fact this next chapter in Joshua’s life was going to be His defining moment. He would lead the children of Israel into the long awaited Promised Land so Israel could receive their inheritance.
Prayer:
Lord, we all get lost sometimes thinking about things we have gone through in this life but like You were doing with Joshua, help us, heal us, encourage us to keep going.
You have a specific work for us to do and we need to get up and get going, not forgetting the loss but moving forward despite the loss.
