Worry

Matthew 6:34 ESV

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Goals, dreams, and ambitions are good things. These concepts are set in place for us to stretch ourselves, but not to cause anxieties or worries if we do not meet these points in our future.

Jesus had just finished telling the crowd that day that we cannot worry about things. His antidote was to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of the needs of life will be fulfilled. In this verse, He says for us not to be anxious about the future and what it holds. Goals, plans, and dreams are good; they give us a mark to shoot for, but worrying that we are not making it as we planned is not what we are supposed to be doing. We can plan and grow with our goals, but they cannot be a source of stress and anxiety. Live for today, plan for the future, but don’t worry. Trust in God, seek Him  first and foremost.

Prayer:

Lord, I have often fallen short of goals and dreams, but You saw me through and provided a way anyway. I want to grow in the Spirit, and that goal I do not have to worry about; I just need to seek You first and Your righteousness. Even the goals that I have for myself, my family and our ministry, I leave to You, Lord. In Your precious name, Lord Jesus, Amen!
