The First Day of the Week
Jesus is Risen!
Happy Resurrection Sunday!
John 20:11-16 ESV
“But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.
They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if You have carried him away, tell me where You have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).”
It is interesting that the first one to see the Angels is a women named Mary of Magdalena. Jews did not accept a woman’s testimony in most accounts. It is also just as I interesting that Mary was the first one to Jesus, the risen Savior. But as Jesus had said about the woman that anointed Him in Simon’s house, “Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”
I know the disciples had been forgiven much and loved Jesus greatly, but I have to wonder if Mary had a greater incentive to see Jesus. Jesus is risen, don’t look for Him in the empty tomb. Seek Him and know Him as the only Savior that ever lived and died and rose again for a commoner like me.
Prayer:
Lord, I am so unworthy of You and Your sacrifice and Your love. You laid down Your life for me and I’m amazed! When you rose again from the grave, You conquered over death, Hades and the grave,
therefore I have no fear!
