You Are My Witnesses
Luke 24:46-48 ESV
“…Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Explanation:
This is one of the last recorded conversations that Jesus had with the disciples that leads up to Acts 1. Luke ends this way with the book of Luke and then continues with this conversation in Acts 1 before Jesus is taken into heaven. So what was He saying to the disciples?
He opened up their minds to understand the Scriptures so they could use prophecy to witness about Him. Now He is telling them that they have seen Him for 3-1/2 years in ministry, seeing what He saw and witnessing His words, actions, and most of all the price that He paid at Calvary. Now they were going to receive the power of the Holy Spirit to use His words wisely, to do the works that He did, and preach forgiveness of sins for everyone.
They will tell with dramatic detail of all that the Messiah came to say, what He did, and what He gives freely; forgiveness, love, acceptance and power to overcome death, hell and the grave. Forgiveness is powerful. Forgiveness makes us feel free, even if we didn’t know we needed it. There is something about it that is liberating.
When you think about a Holy God, Creator of all things, Master of the universe that has forgiven our sins forever, that’s amazing grace. That means we have a fresh relationship, a fresh new beginning, a fresh love. Now that is good news!
Prayer;
Lord, help me to shout the good news of the Gospel from the mountain tops, into the lowest valley, and to every corner of the world, in whatever way I can!
