Consider Me Lord
Psalms 13:3-4 ESV
“Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.”
David asks for God’s attention, and just to comfort most, yes God is busy but never too busy for one of His children. He always gives us special attention. David wants God to lighten his eyes. This is more of a spiritual thing than a physical thing.
Often in our own eyes we see ourselves as weak and inferior, not good enough. Seeking God will lighten our countenance, or in David’s words, lighten our eyes to see who we are in God’s eyes. God never sees us as weak and inferior or not good enough.
When the Angel of the Lord encountered Gideon in the winepress where he was hiding from His enemy, He said to Gideon, “The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valor.” Gideon was hiding, he did not feel like a mighty man of valor (great courage in the face of danger). He felt weak, and inferior. He was probably doing his work of threshing wheat grumbling about the Midianites and praying that God would send a deliverer to the Israelites. He had no idea he was praying for himself; he was to be the deliverer.
God didn’t see Gideon for who Gideon thought he was, he saw Gideon for who He was and who he was about to be. The same works for you and me, If we allow God to lighten our eyes, and be who God knows we are!
Prayer:
Lord, open up our spiritual eyes to see who You created us to be. We are strong, vigilant, powerful, we are a masterpiece. Light up the eyes that have fallen dim to all that You know we are capable of; we are well able and equipped. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
