Listen and Do What He Says
Luke 6:47-49 ESV
“Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Jesus is looking for three actions in this parable. Come to Jesus, hear what he has to say, and put His words into action.
The first person in this parable did exactly what He said. The person came to Jesus, heard His words, and followed through, and built his dwelling place on Jesus the foundation. When life’s challenges came, he did not have to worry, his foundation was Jesus Christ, he carried the man through the tough times.
The second person came to Jesus, heard His words, but instead of building his dwelling place on Jesus the solid foundation, he went away and built his house “on the ground,” without any foundation. Just that description should tell you the results when hard times came.
If you feel like things are a bit shacky in your walk with the Lord, Study His words. Get a good translation that you understand. Then start with the Gospel of John, then Luke and then Romans starting in Romans 8 and read the rest of the book.
The first part of Romans concerns the law and grace, it takes a good commentary to get through it. The second part from chapter 8 to the end is about living out the Christian life.
Get in a full Gospel, Bible based church. Typically, you can find a lot of services online to see what each one is like. Read, pray, come to an understanding of what you are reading by using different translations.
Prayer:
Lord, lead all that are reading this to a complete understanding of You and Your words. Your word, the Bible is life to those who find it and health to their whole body. (Proverbs 4:22) Let Your words be a lamp to their feet and a light for their pathway. (Psalms 119:105) Guide them in all truth, Your words are truth, Amen!
