Getting Smarter or Getting More Experienced

Proverbs 1:5 NKJV
“A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel…”

In the world there are many that are smart but few have wisdom. Intelligence and wisdom are on a different scale. Smart is a word used to emphasize that someone is intelligent. Wisdom is used to emphasize that someone has intelligence coupled with experience and good judgment.

Unfortunately I know some who have head knowledge but not heart knowledge. Let me explain. I can gain all the intelligence that the world has to offer, but if I cannot apply it correctly then what’s the point.

Wisdom is like this, I go to God’s word to gain knowledge. I may not understand what I read, but I keep reading and listening to the Holy Spirit and he teaches me. I get to the point where I know, I understand, and I learn to apply what I have learned.

Too often people get a little bit of knowledge and they think they are wise, it doesn’t work that way. Practicality says; first be attentive, listen intently, hear the Spirit of God, and apply the knowledge. After some time, understanding comes, then wisdom, because you know exactly how to apply the truths.

Solomon says that a person will welcome wise counsel from someone who already has wisdom so we can get on the right track. Accepting wise counsel is a road to discovery.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to be smart enough to be attentive, smart enough to read and listen, smart enough to seek the Holy Spirits counsel. Help to to be smart enough to find wise counsel and then I can start working the knowledge that I have received and one day maybe become wise.
