Doing Good
Hebrews 13:16 ESV
“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
God’s people have been faced with trying times since the beginning. When we are hard-pressed, we look to God for stability and direction. Hebrews 13:16 reminds us of the importance caring for others, regardless of our current circumstance. Here are four things we should know:
“Do not neglect” implies effort is needed. Yes, sometimes when we know to do the right things, to help out where needed, God will provide a way!
“Do Good” means to do the right thing even if we don’t feel like it. Staying close to God will help, He is the Good Father.
“Share” means share what we have. God has faithfully equipped us to face our current circumstances, through Christ. He has purposefully placed us for such a time as this.
“Such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” The best example I have of this is the Good Samaritan. He did not have to get involved with the Jewish man that had been brutally attacked. In fact he was not expected to get involved, but he did it because it was the right thing to do. He even went the extra mile and took him to the inn and paid for his recovery.
Prayer:
Lord, dispute what is going on in my life, never let me neglect my privilege of helping those in need!
