Who Did the Right Things

Matthew 25:31-35 ESV
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne.  Before Him will be gathered all the nations, and He will separate people one from another… Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Understand first, this is not a parable, this is an actual scene. Most commentaries believe this scene will happen here on earth. On the surface it does not appear to be the great white throne of judgement spoken of in Revelations 20, it has similarities.

The King, Jesus is the judge and the one to determine the sentencing. The subject, interesting enough is not necessarily the sentencing, but the rewards for those who they are supposed to be on earth, doing what they were designed to do.

For us, when we saw the needs of anyone, not just the Christian, did we respond in kind? When we saw those who were suffering and burdened down, did we lift the burden off of them? When we saw the hungry, the thirsty, did we offer a cup of cold water or a morsel of food, despite what we see as worthy or not? When we saw the lonely stranger, did it strike the chords of our heart or were we calloused?

Interesting enough, in this judgement, they are not judged on their faith but on their compassion. They were accepted because they saw the need and acted on it. They did not ignore, did not come up with excuses, and they did not have the”me” mindset.

Prayer:
Lord, never let my heart be cold or calloused. Never let me be jaded by the past experiences. Possibly those that are in need could be You, to see how I will react to the need at hand. Let me be You to the world, to those in need.
Amen
