Conformity
Romans 12:2 AMP
“And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”
Conformity with the world is the act of adjusting our attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and emotions to align with the worldly system, social standards, or authority. It is being driven by a desire to be liked and accepted, because we fear rejection.
Paul is asking us to be transformed into the image in which we were created, God’s image, and what He has for us, who He wants us to be, how He wants us to go about in this life. He does not want us to be all alike, He wants us to be unique, special, righteous, holy, to be a light to this world so that we reflect Him and His glory. It is then, and only then, that we can know His will for us.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to be all that You want me to be. I don’t want to follow the world or its systems. I don’t want to be just another person; I want to be unique. I believe I am special because You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalms 139:13,14). Lord, make me who You want me to be, and to know Your perfect will for my life, In Your Righteous and Holy name Lord, Amen!
