God’s Patience

2 Peter 3:8-9 ESV

“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

God is not bound by counting minutes, hours, days, weeks and years, from a human standpoint. Time does not limit God. He does not wait or rush in the same sense that we do. We are affixed on minutes, hours, and days. What seems like poor timing on God’s part, is a plan and purpose known only to God.

Peter insists that we cannot apply human limitations on God. He is not slow in keeping His promises. God is the one who set things in order: He cannot be late as we presume. Instead, God keeps every promise to perfection just in time, for His glory, and for our good. Peter shows us God’s heart, God wants all to be saved, but He will not force any of us to be saved, it is part of our free will. Understand God, He is drawing us with His spirit, but we have to choose to follow Him and accept His Son as Lord and Savior of our lives.

Prayer:

Thank You Lord for Your patience and long suffering. Without it we are destined to the human existence of running our lives into the grave. By Your patience and loving kindness, we are graciously saved, and we have a new hope and a new future because of You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!

Practical Application:

Rest in God’s love. When we desire things, when we even desire His promises, He is faithful, wait on Him, He will bring to pass exactly what we need, exactly when we need it!
