Mercy

Exodus 34:6-7a ESV

“The Lord passed before him (Moses) and proclaimed, “The Lord (Yahweh the most Holy God), the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty…”

God’s mercy is the foundation of forgiveness of human sin. By His mercy, God remains faithful to His promises and His relationship with His people despite their unworthiness and faithlessness.

God’s mercy is such an intricate concept that translators used words such compassion, lovingkindness, favor, and steadfast love to identify with mercy. A brief biblical definition of mercy is undeserved favor, kindness and compassion.”

Mercy is what sustains our relationship with God every moment of every day. If we think about it, who else would tolerate mankind like God does. Who else would put up with people that put Him aside until they need Him. Who else would put up with silence, when God desires communication. Who else would put up with people that so often misunderstood His ways.

Our God is compassionate, loving, kindhearted, patient. His mercies never come to an end. How God tolerance is mercy!

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your patience and love towards us, forgiving us even when we do not know that we have offended You. Thank You for mercy, for believing in us, even when we do not believe in ourselves. Thank You for trusting us even when we do not feel trustworthy. Thank You Lord for Your compassion and love and mercy. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
