Faith at Work

Hebrews 11:1-3 ESV

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”

Faith, according to the Bible, is not superficial or being naive. Much of the book of Hebrews is dedicated to explaining reasons and evidence to accept what God has said as fact. Faith is believing God for the answers, even though we cannot see the solution with our natural eyes.

Godly faith is trust in God that it will come to pass what He has said. Godly faith looks forward, and produces obedience, even when things look impossible. God takes what we cannot see, or cannot understand, and produces light in the darkness of doubt and fear to where we trust that He will have the solution that we need.

Since faith relies on what we know of God, and trusts Him for the future, we walk in His light, listening to His voice and believing He is going to make something from nothing, just as He did at creation. Then faith becomes the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction (or evidence) of things we cannot see.

Prayer:

Lord, no matter where we are this morning, whether on the mountain top of our experiences with You, or the lowest valley, let this one thing draw us closer to You, that You can be trusted even if we cannot see the solution or the outcome of what we face today. You called things that are not as though they already existed, (Romans 4:17). We know that, but sometimes life’s circumstances get in the way of our spiritual eyesight. Help us Lord, in Your name we ask, Amen!
