Do the Right Things!
Isaiah 1:17 ESV
“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”
This is part of God’s rebuke and command to Israel. God speaks through Isaiah and gives Israel this directive; Learn to do good. It sounds easy enough to say but in every situation, on our own, it’s hard to do.
I believe that is why God said, learn to do good. It has to be a pattern, a way of life, in conjunction with the Holy Spirit before it becomes reality. Then if we follow that pattern we can start a humanitarian quest to find compassion and seek justice. From there we start to look around at others instead of just ourselves and we notice the oppressed and we choose to free them from their bonds.
James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction… The widows and orphans need what they have lost, love, compassion, comfort and real care and they need it from us.
All these things God wanted to be the quest of Israel, but it was far from them. We have everything in our reach to fulfill this mandate. We have free salvation through Jesus Christ, justification, cleanes from all our sins, the Holy Spirit to prompt us to do the right things and the Bible to guide us to find the most excellent way. We have no excuse not to obey the Father.
Prayer:
Father, forgive me of my selfishness, teach me daily to do good, seek justice, and to correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”
