Testify

John 8:21,28,30 ESV

“So He said to them (the Scribes and the Pharisees) again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come. So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man (hang me on the cross), then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. As He was saying these things, many (In Jerusalem) believed in Him.”

Speaking to someone to testify of what Jesus has done for us is relatively easy. I understand it is easier for some than it is for others. Speaking to someone who is not a believer is actually easier than to testify to someone that has a little bit of knowledge about God but still does not believe. It is especially difficult to testify to someone who has great knowledge about God and still does not believe in God. So it was in the case of Jesus speaking to the Scribes and the Pharisees; their hearts were hard; they knew great things about God, but they did not know God intimately, like the Father wants to be known.

Jesus did His best, but the Scribes and the Pharisees had their minds made up about Jesus. They were going to die in their sin if they did not come to believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Through all of this, it was not a wasted time for Jesus, because although the majority did not believe in Him, there were “many” that did come to believe in Him.

When we are testifying of our Lord and Savior, we cannot make people believe, we have to rely on the Holy Spirit that He will open up their hearts and minds and believe.

Prayer:

Lord, as we broadcast Your words, some words will fall on rocky soil, some in the midst of thorns, some on the pathway but other seeds will fall on good soil. Those words will produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, and one hundred times more than we broadcast. We cannot be selective where we broadcast, we just are told to testify of Your goodness. You will plant the seed where it belongs to produce the greater harvest. In Your name Lord, Amen!
