Matthew 14:27-29 ESV
“But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.”  So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.”

This story usually bears more condemnation of Peter more than praise for his faith because he eventually sank in the water. The fact is, Peter did get out of the boat in the middle of a storm. Do we have that much faith and guts?

Peter may have failed in the end of this particular story, but he did step out and try, I give him credence for that. After Pentecost, Peter will become a man of great faith and leadership.

Peter grew up in a rough environment but he was a leader, that becomes evident after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Peter was bold enough to speak His mind but he seems to stick his foot in his mouth in a few key moments. After the resurrection of Jesus, he finds himself withdrawn and confused.

He had betrayed the one he loved the most, Jesus, and he had no idea how to fix it. Jesus would reconcile Peter at the Sea of Tiberias, that story is found in John 21. After that, Peter, in just about 2 months, will stand up in Jerusalem and give the sermon of his life.

5000 men will get saved that day and the New Testament church will begin. Peter will become a predominate figure in the new movement. Peter will face threats and imprisonment from the Jews. He will face emperors and the Sanhedrin and boldly proclaim the name of Jesus. He will reach thousands of Jews and Gentiles for Christ.

Peter will exhort a large group of converts in Asia Minor that are exils being sought for their beliefs. In 1st and 2nd Peter, he will utter amazing words that will build faith and assurance not just in his exils but us as well two thousand years later. Peter may have had his negative moments but he finished strong even though Nero seeks him out to kill him for his faith in Jesus Christ.

Peter died as a martyr. Peter was crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, if You can take a lump of clay and make man, You can do anything. If You can transform a rough fisherman into a bold and powerful Apostle like Peter, you can transform me. Mold me and make me Lord into who You want me to be.
