Standing for Those In Need
Psalms 109:30-31 ESV
“With my mouth I will give great thanks to the Lord; I will praise him in the midst of the throng. For he stands at the right hand of the needy one, to save him from those who condemn his soul to death.”
We don’t always seem to have people coming to our rescue these days. We have become so busy with life that we seem to overlook those in need of our help and or assistance. Many are forgotten; many are left to figure out life on their own, but that is not who God intended us to be.
James said, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction…” (James 1:27). To visit does not mean a casual pass by, it means to take care of their needs. If I examine the spirit of this verse, there are many who are spiritually orphaned and widowed as well as those who are true orphans and widows. They need our compassion.
Tough love is necessary in some close situations where we are trying to train or disciple someone, but as a whole we should be concerned about those who have been forgotten. One major characteristic I see of our Lord and Savior is that He had compassion, real compassion, and He is calling us to be the same.
Prayer:
Lord, show us who is in true need. Give us a heart of compassion and love for the hurting, those with true needs. It is not up to us to judge, judgment resides with You, our duty is to follow Your heart. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
