Heroes Are Human
David
1 Samuel 16:12-13 ESV
“And he (Samuel) sent and brought him (David) in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward…”
David was just a boy at this point and the Spirit of God rushed on him. David was destined to be great. David did amazing things for God and Israel but David also made some blunders.
He was human, but in his Spirit, resided the Spirit of God. David is still regarded as a hero in Israel and obviously in Sunday school and Bible study that tells his stories.
Moses
Moses was kept alive as a baby and eventually at 80 years old God anointed him to lead His people out of Egypt. Moses even appeared with Elijah in the new Testament and talked with Jesus. Moses is considered one of the most prominent figures in Israel’s history according to the Jews and Christian’s
Yet Moses made some crucial mistakes, he killed a man, he doubted God and he made a big mistake in his leadership. God still used Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt and 40 years in the desert. Sampson, Gideon, Jephthah all had moments of greatness and were used by God, but they all failed at points in their lives.
We all need to strive for greatness in God’s eyes but He forgives and lifts us up when we fall short. When we fall we have to pick ourselves up get back in right relationship with God and keep going and make Him proud.
Prayer:
Lord, this life is not easy but with You I can do anything You want me to, if You give me Your strength.
