Heroes That Are Examples
Hebrews 11:5 ESV
“Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God.”
We don’t know much about Enoch, as a matter of fact I have only heard a few honorable mentions in messages. There are a few points that give laud to Enoch that obviously Paul considered noteworthy in his chapter of praise for heroes.
One, Enoch pleased God, we are not sure what he did to please God but this was troubling times and Enoch was the exception and not the rule. He pleased God and that is enough for me. Let me give you a few facts that makes Enoch stand out.
Enoch was the great, great, great grandson of Seth, Adam and Eve’s third son. Seth was born when Adam and Eve were 130 years old. Seth was a new generation that was a blessing to Adam and Eve and kind of a fresh start for Adam and Eve.
Enoch was the great grandfather of Noah and of course the destruction of mankind happened in Noah’s lifetime. Enoch lived in between the creation of man and the destruction of man. Although the world was evil because of sin, Enoch found favor with God and Enoch pleased God.
This was no small story, this was a monumental event, between the beginning of evil and the End of all evil, Enoch shines. A lesson for living on earth; even though the world is utterly sinful and displeasing to God, we can please God and bring Him joy. Enoch was so pleasing to God, God took him to be with Him. Enoch did not die.
Prayer:
Father, I pray I can make You smile and be a blessing to you!
