Finding Our Way
Proverbs 2:6-9 NLT
“For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go.”
Finding the right path in this life can be hard sometimes. This world is obscure; it holds many variations of what is called truth and sensibility. Many of the people in this world are motivated by their emotions and past indoctrinations. So, what we get to hear is their view, or their take on matters.
What is common sense? To ask people of worldly standards, they would say that common sense is sound judgment, but what is their view of sound judgment? Who is influencing them in their sound judgment?
When we are looking for the truth or sensibility as Christians we should be looking to God. God makes sense, His word makes sense. If we were to go by the biblical meaning of common sense it is a blend of wisdom and discretion. Wisdom involves knowing what to do, while discretion involves knowing when and where to do it.
Solomon says that the Lord grants us wisdom and common sense. With that comes integrity, and what is just, fair and above reproach. It is not a fine line between the common sense of the world and God’s wisdom and common sense, it is a huge chasm.
What we gain from God’s wisdom and common sense is understanding, a shield of protection, and it gives us the ability to find the right pathway.
Prayer:
Lord, this morning, give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding that only comes from you. Along with that, give us discretion, common sense, and integrity. “Then you (we) will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you (we) will find the right way to go” (Proverbs 2:9). In Your name we ask, AMEN!
