Heal Me
Jeremiah 17:14 ESV
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.”
This verse is part of Jeremiah’s “confessions” (17:14–18), where he expresses his inner agony over the people’s rejection of God and their mockery of his prophetic message to repent and turn back to God. Judah had sinned against God by not obeying Him and seeking His will instead of their own paganistic ways.
Personally, this verse acknowledges that only God can provide true healing and, salvation for Jeremiah. By calling God his “praise,” he affirms his continued worship of God despite his suffering. This verse emphasizes, reliance on God for, spiritual restoration, deliverance, and the need for inner healing in his own heart and life. In essence, Judah was not rejecting Jeremiah but God, but they thought if they could silence Jeremiah they could continue in their sin without judgment. In the end, Jeremiah was vindicated, his prophecies rung true and Judah suffered for their sins.
We don’t always get to see when God breaks through the human hearts that we have ministered to. God will be true, either they will accept him, or totally reject him, we still have to speak the truth, no matter what the outcome.
Prayer:
Lord, I echo Jeremiah’s prayer, “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.” Help me to continue to speak the truth of the Gospel, no matter who rejects it, my quest, my privilege is to carry Your words to the world around me. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
