I Still Belong to You
Psalms 73:16-17, 21-23 NLT
“So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is! Then I went into Your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant— I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to You; You hold my right hand.”
Like Asaph, (the one who wrote this Psalm), we at times get bogged down and we wonder why we try to stay pure for God. We look at the people of this world who are not held to the standards that we are and say it is not fair.
We wonder why the wicked prosper and wrong doers get away with criminal activity and it seems like they are allowed to do what they want. Asaph came into the house of God and realized his short-sightedness. He said; “Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.”
Looking at people who have not given themselves to God and envying them is never a good thing, we know their eternal reward if they do not turn to God. When we get into God’s presence, whether it is at church, in our prayer closet, or just our quiet place, we know who we are, and we know our reward for this life and the life to come.
We see the error of our thinking and God brings everything into perspective. Asaph says in verse 23, “Yet I still belong to You; You hold my right hand.” That is what we have to conclude and remember, that should be all we need to get out of the pity party and get back to correct thinking. Asaph was in that pitty party and when he stepped into the tent of God, it brought him back to, “Yet I still belong to You; You hold my right hand.”
Prayer:
Father forgive us of our silly thinking and let us find that special place with You and declare: “Yet I (we) still belong to You; You hold my (our) right hand.”
