Faith In the Face of Fear
Esther 4:12b-16 ESV
“…Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, “do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.”
Mordecai tells his niece, Queen Esther, that there is a decree that will annihilate all the Jews in the kingdom. Mordecai asks Esther to go to the King and ask for mercy for the Jews. To go into the King without being beckoned holds the sentence of death, even for the Queen.
The King has no idea that Esther is a Jew and although this decree was not originated by him, but he still put his seal on the order, unaware that his queen was in danger of being murdered. Esther has only been the queen for a short time, she is in unfamiliar territory, she fears for her life, but she must do what is right for her people.
She enters into the Kings Court and the King is so struck with her beauty that he beckons her to come in. Eventually through three meetings with the king she reveals the plot to kill the Jews and he is heartbroken, but he cannot change the decree. Until he finds out one of his trusted adversaries was behind the plot and he has the official killed and stops the slaughter of the Jews.
We typically hate to get out of our comfort zone and stand up for what is right but America is in trouble.
I know it is not our fault per se, but hasn’t the church of Jesus Christ as a whole allowed these atrocities? Haven’t we been complacent too long? With watered down religion lackadaisical Christianity and the greed of some evangelists and Pastors we have allowed our reputations to be stained. We need solid biblical messages from the pulpits, pure and holy men and women leading the way and people that will fast and pray to keep evil at bay.
Prayer:
Father, You already know we are in trouble in America, we just need a clue of how to get back from the height that we have fallen from. God forgive us, refill us fresh and anew with the Holy Spirit and help us to get back on track in America!
