I Can Do All Things
Philippians 4:11-13 ESV
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
In every circumstance, good or bad, Paul learned how to be content and thrive even in times of hardship. Paul had it rough, if we look at all the high points of suffering in his life found in 2 Corinthians 12:23-29, but he still kept going.
He tells the church at Philippi that in every circumstance, good or bad, he learned the secret of facing these life circumstances with grace and courage. He knew that this life would end in death for the cause of Christ, but still he worked all the harder to spread the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Being content is an art form, we need to be able to roll with the punches and bounce back. We need to take times of plenty and be thankful to God and enjoy those times but not just expect all times to be good. When things do not go our way, we watch, listen to God, listen to what He wants us to do next and abound, thrive.
Prayer:
Lord, we want to always achieve in this life. We want to learn from You, lean on You, trust in You in every situation whether good or bad. We want to get to the point in our lives like Paul that we know how to be brought low, and we know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, we want to learn the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. Mostly we want to be able to say in every situation in this life, we can do all things through You who gives us the strength that we need!
