Refuge and Stronghold
Psalm 37:39-40 ESV
“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.”
There was a young lady that walked into a dimly lit parking lot to go to her car. As she walked, she felt uneasy, like something was lurking. She walked slowly and cautiously but soon three young men stepped out of the shadows and came toward her. She felt if she ran, she would not be able to outrun these young men, so she prayed for God to save her.
The men kept walking toward her and about ten feet from her they abruptly stopped, gasped and turned and ran. The young lady did not know what had happened, but she was thankful. She decided to go ahead and alert the campus police about the incident even though she was not harmed in any way.
A few days later the police arrested one of the young men and during interrogation they asked him why they ran away. The young man told the police that yes they intended on harming the young lady but out of the shadows stepped a man that appeared to be about ten feet tall and was standing behind the young lady with a sword drawn. The young man actually called the large man a warrior with rippling muscles. They were so frightened of the man that they ran away.
“The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.”
Prayer:
Lord, I put my trust in You. You are my Savior, You are my stronghold in times of trouble and You have proven that to me many, many times. I take refuge in You always. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
