Get Your Eyes Off of the Storm
Psalms 37:7 ESV
“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.’
Two of the hardest things that I have to do is to be still and have patience, those two things are not in my wheelhouse. But I have learned through the years that even though I am rarely still and not as patient as I should be with things and life, I have to be still before God and be patient when I ask things of Him.
Why? Because God works on our spiritual nature first because that spirit in us will live forever. Our spirit will regulate and propel our lives while we are alive, and our spirit will determine where we spend our eternity. So, God has to deal with our spiritual person first before He can begin on the things that we need for this life.
Imagine God having to deal with the spiritual before He can move the natural the next time we go to Jesus for ourselves and for others. That is a lot of changing that needs to take place before a prayer is fulfilled.
Then when being still and patience are beginning to take shape, we have to keep our eyes on Jesus and off of the storms of life or the people around our lives. (See Peter’s story in Matthew 14:22-23). We watch people and the storms of life as if they determine our destiny, and they in fact can if we let them, like Peter did when he was sinking in the waves. The storms of life or people of this life CANNOT determine our life or destiny if we do not let them have control of us. Keeping our eyes on Jesus will help us become overcomers.
Prayer:
Lord, help us in times of doubt and confusion. Help us to be still, and to wait on You. Help us to keep our eyes on You and not watch people or things in this life that will distract us from You. We need for You to move in our lives, and in order to do that, we have to get out of our own heads and trust You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
