The Lord is My Portion
Lamentations 3:24-26 ESV
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”
The book of Lamentations expresses the humiliation, suffering, and despair of Jerusalem and her people following the destruction of the city by the Babylonians in 587 BC. Lamentations is an expression of sorrow, mourning, or regret over the disobedience of Israel and the devastation over the destruction of Jerusalem. The one hope offered in Lamentations written by Jeremiah the prophet is these verses, that’s all they had.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” What’s my point? We have received His grace, mercy and fulness. He is our portion. We have, what they hoped for.
Yet we take it for grant it sometimes. Everyday we need to thank God that He is our portion and we worship Him because He is our hope. We remember what we lost most of all, that’s how our brains work, but take time to thank God for what we have because of His grace, mercy and hope!
Prayer:
Father, You are my portion, my life, my light, and my joy. I am fulfilled in You! Thank you for having mercy on America because of Your love and faithfulness.
