In His Name

John 17:9,11 ESV

“I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one.”

Jesus was praying for His disciples, but He was also praying for us. See His words, “I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me…” we have been chosen by God to know the one true God and His Son.

In this prayer Jesus asks the Father to keep everyone who has received Jesus in His name. What does this mean? To believe in the Father and that the Father is in the Son sets us apart from the world. We are in God’s kingdom now and we are found to be in His name, the great I Am. We are known as Christians which sets us apart from the world.

We live by a higher standandard. For us to be kept in the Father’s name denotes a unity with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. To be kept in the Father’s name is to totally surrender our lives to God. To be in His care, we have to give Him our all.

Prayer:

Father, we want to be kept in Your name and in unity with You, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In order to have that protection, that oneness with You, we have to surrender all to You, every part of who we were before we knew You. We surrender all, so You can become our all in all. In Jesus name, Amen!
