Good News of Great Joy
Luke 2:10-11 ESV
“And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Imagine being a Shepherd that night. You’re relaxing in an opened field, possibly slumbering as the sheep are sleeping. Suddenly a bright light, lights up the sky. You see angels (which is enough to make you faint), and you hear the most beautiful singing that you have ever heard in your life and music so wonderful it captivates you. You stir and the sheep are starting to awake (I have to believe God stilled the animals, humans, not so much).
You are speechless, afraid, and overwhelmed. (God has that effect on people because He is too marvelous for our understanding). Then another Angel descends and comes to stand in thin air, flowing robes, and a glow so bright you have to squint your eyes. Then the angel says, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”
You are silent, captivated and in awe but still shaken. Then the angel says, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” What the angel says doesn’t register in your mind at first, you’re still in shock. When the heavenly host disappears back into the heavens.
You sit dazed, wondering if it was all a dream. You look around to the other heardsmen and Shepherd’s and you ask, “was it real?” You then ask what did they see, what did they hear. Once all the stories collide, you get up and gather your things and head to the city of David, Bethlehem, still in shock but ready to see a miracle.
Prayer:
Father, I wasn’t there 2000 years ago when the angels came, But I feel the excitement that they must have had, knowing the Messiah had come, God with us.
