Never Leave Us Alone

John 14:18-19 ESV

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.”

When Jesus promises not to leave believers as orphans, in this case especially the Disciples, He is reassuring them that this is not the end of their relationship with Him. They will not be abandoned or left without help.

Orphans in biblical times were not like orphans now. Orphans in those times were homeless, with no money and no help from the government, they were at the mercy of people.

Jesus says to the those standing near, in a little while, the world will be without His presence. That must have been scary, but to those who have given their lives to Him, they will see Him forever. How? Because Jesus will be living in them and living through them, just like He does in us.

Every day we wake up with Jesus. We start our routine today with Jesus and hopefully we have given all the tasks today to Jesus so He can perfect our actions and reactions. He gives us wisdom to make smart decisions. He gives us peace in the middle of the storms of this life. He walks with us and talks with us. He offers hope when things seem hopeless. He tries to live through us, at least as much as we let Him live through us, sometimes we shut Him out.

Will we let Him live through us today in every way?

Prayer:

Lord, let there be less of me and more of you. More of You in my thought processes. More of You in my actions and reactions. More of You in my business, more of You in our ministry, and more of You in all that I do today. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
