Peace
John 14:27 ESV
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Jesus at the last supper was summarizing all that He had done and will do through the Disciples. It was a time that the Disciples did not understand but in a few hours, they will have their world turned upside down.
Jesus is giving them encouragement that this is not the end of all things, it happens to be the beginning of a great new chapter in their life. So, what does He give them? He gives them peace. There will be violence and chaos going on outside, but they will have peace inside if they will trust in Him and trust His words that He has been telling them.
We know by account in the Bible that they were in fear and dread during the crucifixion, but that does not take away the fact that Jesus gave them peace and assurance in the middle of the storm.
So, John wrote about this account later on and remembered His words. John would fall on these words of our Lord many times in his lifetime, because his walk was truly rocky with those who hated Christianity. John not only survived but he wrote some of the greatest books in the New Testament including the incredible Revelations.
Jesus is saying to us today, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” No matter what is going on in our lives or in America, hold to His peace that passes all understanding.
Prayer:
Lord, we lean on You this morning. We trust that You will infuse in every one of us peace and assurance that You have everything under control, and You have our best interests at heart. We receive Your peace this morning, we trust in You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
