Mourning to Dancing
Psalms 30:11 ESV
“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness…”
David was a man that faced a lot of dark times in his life, but he also held the secret of how not to stay there. When the Ark of the Covenant (that which was considered the presence of God in those times) was lost, he mourned, but he never gave up on getting it back. When the Ark was brought back and carried into Jerusalem the Bible says that David danced before the Lord with all of his might.
His wife told him that he was acting foolishly jumping and dancing before the Ark but David said, “I’m going to act more shamelessly than this, even to humbling myself in my own eyes” (for the Lord to be magnified).
We at times get down, maybe even depressed but in those times, we have to lean on the Lord who will turn our morning into dancing. It will not happen suddenly for everyone. Some need to work at getting out of those dark times slowly, by leaning on the Lord, trusting in Him, relying in Him, He will turn our dark times, sad times into dancing.
Fully embrace David’s ability to get out of those times by seeking the Lord, trusting in God, and sacrificially worshipping and praising God even in the dark times. Put on some praise and worship music, sing even if we do not feel like singing. Dance, even if we feel like we may look foolish, we are being foolish for the God that we love.
Prayer:
Lord, this morning, turn our mourning into dancing, loosen the sadness of the sackcloth and put on us a garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3). We rejoice in You our Savior, Amen!
