Words to Live By
Romans 12:15-16 ESV
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.”
I had some friends many years ago in a church that when you asked them how they were doing, they would resight a portion of Deuteronomy 28:13. They would say, we are the “head and not the tail, and…on top and never at the bottom.” It didn’t matter if they were doing bad or doing good, the response was always the same, and at the time their business was failing.
There is nothing wrong with positive affirmation, but when we are honest with people, they can support and pray for us when life is not going well. Rejoice with those who are rejoicing, weep with those who are weeping.
Another problem we have, when someone is having problems, we have a tendency to avoid them. We don’t want to be brought down by Debbie downer so we stay clear. We have all seen it, maybe we have participated ourselves. You see Debbie downer in the grocery store, so you dart down another aisle.
Galatians 6:2 says; “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Fulfill the law (commandment) of Christ. People need for us to rejoice with them when they are happy and cry with them when they are in despair. Don’t be a fair weather friend.
Prayer:
Lord, You have never left me or forsaken me. Let me be Jesus to those in need!
