Seeking A Sign
2 Kings 20:8 ESV
“Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, ‘What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?”’
Hezekiah was told that God was going to give him 15 more years to live. Now Hezekiah wanted a sign from God for an assurance of that promise. In the previous chapter, an Angel of the Lord in one night killed 185,000 Assyrians to spare Hezekiah and Judah. You would think that would be a sign to Hezekiah.
We often want assurance that things are going to work out, that our prayers will be answered in the way we wanted. But often, we do not get a sign. Why? God doesn’t want us to go from sign to sign in our life experiences. He wants us to trust Him no matter what. To walk in faith and believe in God without a sign.
We don’t need a sign to know that God is faithful and true. He continously supplies, continously restores, He is continously faithful.
Prayer:
Lord, seeking a sign is not what you want of us. You want us to rely on You, You want me to rely on Your faithfulness, Your past blessings, past healings. You are faithful and true, supplying all our needs according to Your riches in glory. In Your name we pray, Amen!
