Isaiah 57:15 ESV
“For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “’I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”‘
First let me address that the God head is the only one that is truly one hundred percent holy. God says, that He dwells in the high and holy place, but He also dwells with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit.
One who is contrite, is one who is feeling remorseful of sins. Contrite can also mean humility, brokenness, and a healthy fear of God. Yes, God wants us to be aware of our sinfulness and wrong attitudes, He can work with that. What He cannot work with is arrogance and those who feel like they are Ok, or good enough.
The last part of this passage says; that “God revives the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” God’s grace is so amazing. I know most people take it for granted because it’s free and effortless, but for sinful people to be in the presence of a Holy God is just amazing.
It’s like being in a white silk prom dress in a coal mine. It doesn’t make sense that He would love us so much but He does. God made us accessible to Him because of His grace and mercy.
We don’t deserve it, we can’t muster holiness up on our own, yet God rich in love and mercy says, that He “revives the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” Just when we need it, God offers grace for the contrite.
Prayer:
Father, I don’t deserve You but You come to my rescue time and time again! Thank You!
