Sought the Lord

Psalms 34:4 ESV

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.”

Apparently, David had been in a time of fear when he wrote this Psalm. The outcome of David’s prayer was a deliverance from fear. We may read that as if God intervened in David’s situation and he was absolved from dealing with this threat, but that is not what David is saying.

David was in fear, dread, worry or anxiety, and he made the right choice, to seek the Lord. Then he knew God heard him and answered him and took the fear away. Delivering David from fear does not mean that God took the threat away, it just means that God stopped David from fearing because David’s chose to lean on God and trust God.

When we get into situations in our lives where we are in dread, fear, worry or anxieties of this life, it seems to stifle us. The best choice we have is to lean on Jesus, to lay our burdens and fears at His feet and let Him fight out battles.

Remember that David encountered a lot of fearful situations in his lifetime but remember what he said in Psalms 23 verse 4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

God will not always remove the threat, sometimes He chooses to go with us and lead us through the threat, so we can learn to depend on Him in the good times and in the bad times.

Prayer:

Lord, we cast our cares, anxieties and fears on You. Whether You remove the threat or walk us through the dark valleys, we will trust in You. I believe that You will take away the fears and give us the confidence that David had in You. In You name Lord Jesus, Amen!
