Calling Sinners to Come Home
Luke 5:30-32 ESV
“And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”
I have spent the majority of my life working in the church, in some capacity or another. It is completely necessary to have the church to build people up, strengthen, encourage, sometimes to heal and restore. But it is also completely necessary to be in the world winning the lost.
We cannot expect people to go to church on their own. I see signs on a lot of church marquees inviting people to come in. Generally most people do not come to church on their own unless they are asked.
So we, like Jesus, need to be a friend to those who do not know the Lord. To be the positive influence to them but not be influenced by the world’s ways. Maintaining friendships to those who are not Christians gives us opportunity to lead people to Jesus.
Be a witness, a living testimony, a positive influence, to those who are in the world. Let’s let our light shine in the darkness to lead souls to the Lord. The time is drawing near for the Lord’s return.
Prayer:
Lord, let my light be a light shining out through the night. Help me to be a friend of sinners, not to be influenced by them, but that I would be a positive influence to the lost, to bring them hope, healing, restoration by leading them to You! In Your name Lord I ask, Amen!
