Prodigal Son Story Part 1
Luke 15: 11-16 ESV
“And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them.
Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need.
So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.”
1) God will not always stop us from doing something foolish.
2) Most of us think we can outsmart the life’s stumbling blocks, but can we?
3) Sometimes we think that we know what is best, sometimes we think we can do it on our own and by our own means, but can we?
4) We all have been reckless at one point of our lives or another. We believe since it was just a mistake, we can overcome it and keep moving forward without a real plan or direction, but can we?
5) In humility when we have hit the bottom of the barrel, we try and fix things our way, but it just turns out to be hog wash, so to speak.
6) The statement at the end of this segment of the story says, “and no one gave him anything.” We have been there.
We can relate to the prodigal son because most of us have been there, done that. Hitting the bottom of the barrel with God involved in our lives, is just a place where we reach reality and we kind of give up on our plans and let God in. That is exactly where God can do miracles.
Life doesn’t always have to lead us down this road, but most of us have seen the road and traveled it. If you haven’t seen this in your life, thank God for His mercy and grace. If you have seen this, you probably have seen there is no limit of what God can do. Hold on, when life happens and sidelines us, this is but a moment in time, God is going to create miracles in our lives and do great things.
Prayer:
Father God, though I have done things my way and failed, all is not lost, I have You in my life. Nothing is hopeless, nothing is impossible with You Father. A resounding thank You Father God, Amen!
